What is the difference between manual and autofocus lenses?
With manual lenses, you set the focus and aperture yourself. Autofocus lenses focus automatically – but only on compatible cameras.
Can I use vintage lenses on modern cameras?
Often, yes. Many manual lenses can be used on mirrorless digital cameras with an adapter. Check beforehand for the right adapter and any limitations – autofocus and automatic aperture control are usually unavailable.
How can I tell if a lens is compatible with my camera?
By the mount, for example Canon FD, Nikon F, or Minolta MD. It is listed in every listing. Compare it with your camera or check if there is a suitable adapter.
What does fungus mean?
Fungus is a fine growth inside the lenses caused by moisture. It can cause loss of contrast or spots in the image. The mechanics usually remain intact.
What is lens haze?
A cloudy haze inside the glass, usually caused by age or moisture. It can reduce contrast, especially in backlit conditions. If a lens has haze, this is stated in the product description.
Can I still use a lens with an aperture defect?
In fixed shooting situations, such as always shooting wide open, this may be possible. However, there are usually limitations. We clearly mark such lenses.
What is a prime lens?
A lens without zoom, for example 50 mm. Prime lenses are usually faster and often deliver better image quality.
What is a pancake lens?
A particularly flat, lightweight lens. Good for travel and street photography.
What does the aperture ring do?
You use it to set the aperture manually. It is usually located at the front or in the middle of the lens and clicks noticeably into place at each setting.
What is the maximum aperture?
The largest possible aperture, for example f/1.4 or f/2.0. It lets in more light and results in a shallower depth of field.
What do we check?
- Focus ring
- Aperture ring, if present
- Zoom mechanism, if present
- Autofocus on the camera, for AF lenses
- Light transmission and lens condition
What do we not check?
- Weather sealing on weather-resistant lenses
- Fine oil traces on aperture blades, provided they do not affect functionality
- Image performance at maximum aperture or under extreme lighting conditions
Every lens is unique – serial numbers, logos, and wear may vary. We check carefully, but without long-term testing or image evaluation.
How do we assess the condition?
Every lens is assigned a condition grade. You can see which one it is by the symbol in the top left corner of the product image. What the grades mean and what we check for each type of lens: How we check lenses.
What is included in the delivery?
Only the lens stated in the product title. Accessories shown in the images are not automatically included – only if they are explicitly mentioned.
How long does shipping take?
Every lens is packed with shock protection. You can find shipping times and payment methods under Shipping and Payment.
How do I return an item?
You can request a return on the Returns page. Regardless of this, your statutory right of withdrawal applies.
