Battery disposal

Information on the disposal of old batteries

The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):

1. Free return of used batteries

Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can dispose of them at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried as new batteries in our product range. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address listed in the imprint.

2. Meaning of the battery symbols

Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004 percent lead by mass, the chemical name of the pollutant used is located below the wheeled bin symbol – where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.

Description

Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 compact camera with 38mm f/2.8

Condition and limitations

Condition: good used condition.

The body may show slight signs of wear, such as scratches or scuffs.

Slight signs of wear may be present (for example, scratches or scuffs).

Autofocus with classic film lever

The Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 combines automatic focusing and exposure with manual film advance. The fixed 38mm f/2.8 lens is designed for 35mm film. This gives you the shooting aids of an AF compact camera while allowing you to maintain the deliberate rhythm of the film lever after each shot.

Locking focus and composing

The autofocus works from approximately one meter to infinity. Focus locking allows you to first frame the main subject and then change the composition. Indicators and audible cues assist with this process. However, they do not replace the need to pay attention to the correct distance from the subject and to choose a suitable main subject.

Automatic exposure and built-in flash

The camera controls the exposure using a program mode. In low light, warning indicators help you decide whether to use the built-in flash. The AF2 requires two AA batteries for this, which also power the autofocus and other electronics. The film speed is set to match the film you are using; a film inserted without adjusting the settings will not always be automatically set correctly.

Distinguishing the AF2 from the AF2-M

The AF2 described here is advanced using a lever and rewound manually at the end. The later AF2-M, with motorized advance, is a different version. This is relevant to your purchasing decision if you are looking for either as many motorized functions as possible or specifically the combination of autofocus and manual film advance.

Between automation and manual operation

The AF2 is well suited to a shooting style that relies on automatic focusing and exposure but deliberately advances the film by hand. The lever provides a clear conclusion to each shot. If this is the combination you are looking for, it is a distinct advantage of the model. If, on the other hand, you also want motorized advance and rewind, that represents a different functional requirement than the operation of the AF2 described here.
