What we check

  • Shutter mechanism: fires reliably and resets cleanly
  • Film transport: runs evenly, does not jam, and winds reliably
  • Rewind mechanism: engages and runs cleanly
  • Shutter: all speeds fire, with even operation
  • Viewfinder image: visible, without major dirt or clouding
  • Light meter, if present: reacts plausibly to light
  • Front lens: checked for scratches, haze, and fungus

What we do not check

  • The accuracy of the shutter speeds and the light meter – we check that they work, not how accurately
  • Film counter
  • Self-timer
  • Detailed mirror coating and mirror mechanism

Condition ratings used here

Good, Acceptable, Partially Defective, and Defective. For SLRs, Partially Defective almost always means: The light meter does not work reliably, but everything else works.

What the ratings mean exactly can be found under Condition of analog cameras. You can find an overview of all product types under Item condition.
